St. Luke's Campus

Revitalizing the St. Luke's Campus is one pillar of our plan to Rebuild CPMC. This 140-year-old campus has deep roots in the Mission District and a reputation for providing high-quality care to its diverse populations.
We propose to transform St. Luke's into the hospital of choice for the southern sector of San Francisco, ready to serve both its longstanding patient base and to attract physicians and patients from all nine of the campus' surrounding neighborhoods.
Based on recommendations from the Blue Ribbon Panel, which convened in spring 2008 to provide a consensus proposal for the future of this campus, the new St. Luke’s will be a full service, 80-bed hospital with all single-patient rooms. It will provide more of the health care services that the community needs, and will include 50% more emergency department space, a new urgent care program, labor and delivery, and post-partum care.
Future expansion plans include a new medical office building on the site of the old hospital. Once the new hospital is built, services will be moved from the old hospital, ideally within a 24-hour period. After the transition is complete, the old hospital building will then be taken down to make room for the new medical office building.
Blue Ribbon Panel Background
The goal of the Blue Ribbon Panel, which was comprised of health care advocates and community leaders, was to create a viable plan which complements and is supported by CPMC's plans for our other campuses.
Two weeks later, the San Francisco Health Commission passed a resolution endorsing the findings of the Blue Ribbon Panel to rebuild St. Luke's.
